Tatyana Dumova is an Associate Professor at Point Park University's School of Communication where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in multimedia, communication theory, and research methods. She has extensive curriculum development experience and works on designing new courses and programs in visual and interactive communication and emerging media technologies.
Before coming to Point Park, Dumova served as deputy chair of the curriculum committee for the School of Communication and Media Arts Coordinating Task Force at Montclair State University in New Jersey and co-chaired the curriculum committee at the University of North Dakota. At UND, Dumova received the 2006 Outstanding Teaching Award and was named Bush Teaching Scholar in 2007. She was successful in developing a digital media course sequence at the University of North Dakota, designed a social media concentration for Montclair State University, and developed an M.A. in Communication Technology for Point Park University.
Dumova has published two books on social media, including Handbook of Research on Social Interaction Technologies and Collaboration Software: Concepts and Trends (2010) and Blogging in the Global Society: Cultural, Political and Geographical Aspects (2012), which can be found on the shelves of academic libraries ranging from Yale and Harvard to Singapore and Shanghai universities. She has also presented and published more than 50 peer-reviewed research papers, articles, and book chapters.
Tatyana Dumova is the editor of an interdisciplinary scholarly journal, the International Journal of Interactive Communication Systems and Technologies (IJICST). She serves on the editorial boards of Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, International Journal of Learning Technology, and International Journal of Online Pedagogy and Course Design.
Actively involved in professional service, Dumova chairs the Communication Assessment Division of the National Communication Association and serves on the Executive Council of the the Pennsylvania Communication Association and Eastern Communication Association. She is past chair of the Applied Communication Interest Group of the Eastern Communication Association and Communication Education Interest Council of the Pennsylvania Communication Association.
Dumova judges competitive research papers and panels for the Pennsylvania Communication Association, Eastern Communication Association, National Communication Association, International Communication Association, and Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, chairs panels, and serves as respondent during the conventions. She was invited to serve as an external reviewer for tenure and promotion in the United States and abroad and is a certified online course reviewer. Dumova was named to a panel of international experts of the New Eurasia Foundation to evaluate grant proposals in information technologies.
