Tatyana Dumova is a Professor of Multimedia at Point Park University's School of Communication. She has extensive teaching and curriculum development experience and works on designing new courses and programs for face-to-face, online, and hybrid (blended) instruction.
Before coming to Point Park, Dumova served as deputy chair of curriculum committee for the School of Communication and Media Arts Coordinating Task Force at Montclair State University in New Jersey and co-chaired a curriculum committee at the University of North Dakota. At UND, Dumova received the 2006 Outstanding Teaching Award and was named Bush Teaching Scholar in 2007. She was successful in developing a digital media course sequence at the University of North Dakota, designed a social media concentration for Montclair State University, and developed an M.A. in Communication Technology for Point Park University.
Dumova published three books on the impact of new communication technologies on social interaction, including Social Networking: Redefining Communication in the Digital Age (2016), Handbook of Research on Social Interaction Technologies and Collaboration Software: Concepts and Trends (2010) and Blogging in the Global Society: Cultural, Political and Geographical Aspects (2012), which can be found in academic libraries ranging from Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon to Yale and Harvard universities, from Oxford and Cambridge to Sydney and Hong Kong universities, as well as the Library of Congress, the British Library, Royal Danish Library, National Library of Australia, Shanghai Library, and Qatar National Library, among others. Dumova presented and published more than 70 peer-reviewed research papers, articles, and book chapters.
Dumova is the editor-in-chief emeritus of the interdisciplinary scholarly journal, International Journal of Interactive Communication Systems and Technologies (IJICST). She serves on the editorial board of Journalism & Mass Communication Educator and as associate editor of Pennsylvania Communication Annual.
Dumova judges competitive research papers and panels for the Pennsylvania Communication Association, Eastern Communication Association, National Communication Association, International Communication Association, and Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, chairs panels, and serves as paper respondent during the conventions. Dumova is a certified online course reviewer and serves as an external reviewer for tenure and promotion in the United States and abroad.
Actively involved in professional service, Dumova has chaired the Communication Assessment Division of the National Communication Association and served on the Executive Council of the the Pennsylvania Communication Association and Eastern Communication Association. She chaired the Applied Communication Interest Group of the Eastern Communication Association and Communication Education Interest Council of the Pennsylvania Communication Association. Dumova is a Middle States Commission on Higher Education evaluation team member and serves as an international grant evaluation expert. In 2017 Dumova was selected to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster.
